Description: The IU Physics Department will offer an accelerated course in Modern Physics. This is the third course in the calculus based introductory physics sequence. The summer course will be especially useful for teachers who seek a good introduction to, or review of, modern physics. Students will explore, among other things: relativity, Lorentz transformations, the quantum nature of light, Schrodinger equations, particles in a box, lasers, radioactivity, nuclear reactions, elementary particle theory and much more. If youve taken introductory mechanics and E&M and you havent taken Modern Physics you are missing out!! Prerequisites are Calculus Based Electricity and Magnetism (P222 or equivalent). Students who have had algebra-based electricity and magnetism (P202 or the equivalent) can join the course with instructor approval.
